Application of nonlinear model predictive control to an industrial induction heating furnace

چکیده
Induction Heating Furnaces are used extensively in industry. The basic principle is that induced eddy currents are used to heat a ferromagnetic material as it passes through a series of coils. Because of the importance of such systems, there has been on-going interest in their design and operation. Past work includes model development from physical principles and optimal design of operational practices. However, previous work has invariably been based on open-loop strategies. Our work is aimed at the design of a closed-loop control strategy incorporating feedback from the available measurements. This paper reports initial work including model development and calibration together with preliminary control system design. Proposed future work includes full scale industrial implementation.

Nonlinear model predictive control “MPC” for slab reheating furnace based on transient numerical model Authors Names and Affiliations
In steel industry, without consideration of blast furnaces, reheating furnaces are classified the biggest energy consumers. The research of efficient control algorithms permitting less energy consumption has become an important issue for those furnaces. In this paper, a nonlinear Model Predictive Controller (MPC) is designed for a steel slab walking-beam reheating furnace. A numerical nonlinear...
متن کاملModel Predictive Control of the Exit Part Temperature for an Austenitization Furnace
Quench hardening is the process of strengthening and hardening ferrous metals and alloys by heating the material to a specific temperature to form austenite (austenitization), followed by rapid cooling (quenching) in water, brine or oil to introduce a hardened phase called martensite. The material is then often tempered to increase toughness, as it may decrease from the quench hardening process...
متن کاملAn ANOVA Based Analytical Dynamic Matrix Controller Tuning Procedure for FOPDT Models
Dynamic Matrix Control (DMC) is a widely used model predictive controller (MPC) in industrial plants. The successful implementation of DMC in practical applications requires a proper tuning of the controller. The available tuning procedures are mainly based on experience and empirical results. This paper develops an analytical tool for DMC tuning. It is based on the application of Analysis of V...
متن کاملResearch and Application on Two-stage Fuzzy Neural Network Temperature Control System for Industrial Heating Furnace
Industrial heating furnace has a great deal of special characteristics such as big capacity, long lag and non-linear trait, etc. In order to control it better, we present a sort of fuzzy neural network temperature control model. It can transform the rulers of fuzzy logic control to a pair of input-output samples of multilayer forward neural network. The knowledge is not expressed by a serial of ...
متن کاملActive and reactive power control via currents of a rotor’s d and q components with nonlinear predictive control strategy in a doubly fed induction generator based on wind power system
Wind energy today, has attracted widespread interest from among a variety of sources of renewable energy in the world. Owing to the increasing demand for production of electrical energy for electricity networks by using wind power, it is essential that wind power plants are actively incorporated in the network’s performance using an appropriate control system. In general, these wind power p...
